Constable's Run

Constable Jinx Porter is in a fight to keep his elected position against an opponent with power and money. His only ally is his girlfriend, Raven. But Raven, a Reserve Deputy Constable, has problems of her own, and when Jinx betrays her in the worst possible way, Miss Let's-Play-Fair is replaced by Miss Let's-Get-Even-Texas-Style, and Raven knows both roles equally well.

". . . juggles a number of over-the-top plotlines full of midgets, drag queens, ex-convicts, and women with big hair . . . Texas fans, especially, will enjoy the capers."
-- Booklist

CONSTABLE'S RUN is an exciting character driven police procedural (perhaps more like a sheriff procedural). The story line engages the reader in a humorous way from the start especially with the constables doing their job. Raven is a delightful heroine and Jinx acts like a beleaguered individual lost at every turn. Fans will relish Laurie Moore's strong tale starring a wonderful champion."

Constable’s Run excerpt-

She didn’t see who tackled her from behind. But the blow knocked the breath out of her, and her knees buckled under the impact of a great weight.

Middle-Easterner eyes snapped open like rollershades. The countertop moved away in slow motion and the room tilted on its side. Her purse skidded beyond her reach, scattering the contents across the concrete.

With an attacker firmly on top of her, Raven tasted the floor. Her .38 Smith & Wesson pinwheeled away and came to rest near the wall. With her lungs buring from oxygen deprivation, she writhed to dislodge him in her struggle to breathe.

Angry words, hissed directly into her ear, sent a chill through her heart. “Die, gadja. I curse my dead mother and dead father if I don’t succeed.”
